Gede ruins and crab shack
Gede ruins and crab shack
The Gedi ruins are the remains of a Swahili town located in Gedi, a village near the coastal town of Malindi in Kenya.
Step into history by visiting the remains of a Swahili town near Malindi, a town on the coast of Kenya. Gedi was a thriving town between the 13th and 17th centuries, but you won’t read about it in history books. Geologists and anthropologists have found evidence of Muslim inhabitants and items traded with other people.
A Ming vase from China, an iron lamp from India, and scissors from Spain are some of the items that show the existence of a village along the jungle coast. The Gedi ruins are now a national heritage site that currently houses a museum. The site is populated by guenon monkeys, who often interact with visitors.
Crab Shak is a pier/restaurant inside the mangrove forest in the sea inlet where it offers a breathtaking view of the African sunset.
